This painting is part of a series inspired by Indian Rock Park in Salina, Kansas. All 7 paintings in this series used a similar color palette of burnt umber, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, Naples yellow, various greens, Paynes grey, and cobalt teal.

A cliff face rises on the west side of the Smoky Hill River, its layered stone catching midday light. The painting is semi-abstract, done with a large a brush and a palette knife for added texture.

The sides are painted, so there’s no need for a frame. A sawtooth hanger is attached on the back. Signed on the right-hand edge of canvas.
